Maui Bound

which one to take?

Every surfer knows that one day they should probably make the pilgrimage to the birthplace of surfing, Hawaii (Yes, Stiv, I realize the Peruvians may have ridden waves as early or earlier than the Hawaiians). Anyway, as a pasty white Welshman, who learnt to surf in three foot onshore slop that constitutes much of Wales’ surf, I never considered a surf trip to the islands a possibility. I mean, I always wanted to go but what if I encountered surf, far and beyond my abilities? Sometimes finding perfect surf is worse than finding junk, if it is out of your comfort or skill level.

Recently, the opportunity presented itself for a relatively cheap and easy forage to Maui. Not exactly the North shore of Oahu but that suits me just fine. So I’m busy laying off the beer, cycling a few extra miles a day, pumping some iron and so on, so I don’t look too British without a wetsuit. Luckily, my “guide” has some Polynesian-looking features, so we should be OK.

Now, to choose what board to take.
