We all know plastic bottles are the worst of the worst, so it’s nice to see a few places in the news that are doing something about them.

Scandinavia’s Scandic hotel chain has decided to stop selling bottled water in all of its 141 conference and hotel locations. Scandic calculates that it sells about 3.6 million .33 liter water bottles per year, and that deciding to stop selling them will conserve about 160 tons of CO2 annually.

Seattle is also on the eco-radar this week with mayor Greg Nickels’ signing of an executive order which stops the city from buying bottled water, meaning that there will be no more bottled water at city facilities and events. This may sound like a small step, but it all adds up; last year the City of Seattle spent $58,000 on bottled water alone. The decision was similar to the one made in San Francisco last year, where mayor Gaviv Newsom signed an order banning using public funds to buy single-serving bottled water.
