We love companies that start-up because of a passion but that stick to their ideals as they grow. Grain Surfboards is one of them. The company started in the basement of a house in York Beach, Maine. What started as a small local company has grown into a full-fledged board and kit manufacturer. But just because the crew at Grain has gone big doesn’t mean they’ve sold out. Their main goal is still “to face up to our responsibility for the environmental impacts of surfing but still to surf a great board.” That means they make solid boards from locally grown sustainable wood that are meant to be used.

If you haven’t checked out Grain before, now is your chance (if you’re on the East Coast that is). From August 11-14, Grain will be stopping around various spots in Rhode Island and New Jersey for demos and shop visits. If you’re in the area there’s no excuse for not taking advantage of a sweet demo. And at the very least, stop by and meet the crew of this great company. Check out the full schedule here.
