btl-cover-smallBoth surfing fanatics and history buffs will want to check out the new documentary Between the Lines: The True Story of Surfers and the Vietnam War. (Here at Wend we had the opportunity to show it during our re-launch party; I can tell you that it’s a pretty solid documentary.) Narrated by the writer/director John Milius (Apocalypse Now), the film offers a unique perspective on the dramatic effect that the Vietnam War and draft had on young American surfers.

A benefit screening of the documentary will be held in Los Angeles on August 21, 2008 at 8 pm at the Beverly Hills Fine Arts Theater. Proceeds from the screening will benefit the Rick Thomas Veterans Counseling Center.

Tickets for all active duty military and military veterans are complimentary. Tickets may be available at the door but you’ll probably want to plan reserve some in advance by sending an email to purefrustrationproductions[at]cox.net.

Be sure to check out the trailer here.
