We talk so much about our carbon footprints it’s easy to forget about our water footprints (remember Lance???). The Guardian has put together an excellent photo essay on exactly how much water is used to produce some of our most basic food commodities. We’ve mentioned water footprints before, but they seem to be much less talked about than our use of carbon. Considering we are discussing one of the world’s most valuable resources, our consumption of water should be high on our list of environmental concerns. For example, at this week’s World Water Week help in Stockholm, fresh water was even referred to as “the new oil”; access to clean water is certainly of the essence. So take a look at the photo essay, read the Guardian’s accompanying article on water and start to consider your own water footprint.
