New Yorkers who aren’t afraid to drink from the tap
The folks at Tapd’NY are a little tired of the bottled water industry. So tired that they call their product the “anti-bottled water bottled water.” That’s mainly because they are fed up with bougie bottled waters that claim to come from Arctic glaciers, tropical islands, and European volcanoes. Last time Tapd’NY checked, New York City tap water was just as good as bottled water — in fact some companies already bottle up tap water, they just don’t advertise it. So they came out with their own version: bottled NYC tap water.
Although plastic bottles certainly aren’t our favorite thing, Tapd’NY’s manifesto advocates recycling their bottles and refilling them at one of 500,000 taps around the city.
There isn’t too much discussion of the environmental effects of plastic water bottles on their website — beyond encouraging customers to re-use their bottles — but the company is coming out soon with re-usable Sigg bottles, which is commendable. Ultimately the idea is, if you’re going to have to buy bottled water, it should at least be coming from a local source instead of imported from around the world… we’re talking about water here, remember?
Despite currently making a profit off of plastic, their hearts are in the right place, reminding us to drink local and refill our bottles whenever possible, because if we don’t, we end up with this:
Now go find your own tap…
