The Dec 12 completion date for the massive Peak-2-Peak Gondola at the Whistler-Blackcomb Resort in British Columbia is fast approaching. Once completed, it will be the largest gondola in North America.

Here’s what the Whister-Blackcomb Peak-2-Peak website says about the environmental impact of their new gondola:

Footprint

The amount of land to be cleared of trees in order to construct and operate this lift is 68% less than a conventional lift.

The average High Speed Quad lift foot print is 8 hectares.

Due to the limited number of towers and the height above the forest the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola foot print will be approximately 2.5 hectares.

Energy Consumption

Because the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola gains minimal elevation the energy consumption required to operate it is approximately 50% of the Village Gondola and similar to Jersey Cream or Emerald Express.

Car Travel

It is projected that this mountain link will reduce the need to commute between mountains via vehicle and ease congestion on the roads for those who need to travel by vehicle.
