World Commute: Track your miles, save money, see your carbon offset, feel good…
The staff at Wend has been taking part in Portland’s Bicycle Transportation Alliance’s 2008 Bike Commute Challenge, and I must admit that it makes me feel pretty good to login everyday and clock my miles. But the Bike Commute Challenge only runs through September, so I was stoked to learn about World Commute that launched at last week’s Interbike.
A non-profit, social networking site, World Commute was established to promote and track the use of non-motorized transportation. But it’s not just for commuters. You can clock those trips to the grocery store or the coffee shop; as long as you’re on a bike, a skateboard, your legs, or any other mode of transportation that doesn’t entail gas guzzling.
I realize that you may not want another website to check in with everyday, but World Commute not only lets you track your non-motorized trips it also lets you know how much money you’re saving in gas and the amount of carbon you’re offsetting. Seriously, this site makes it pretty easy to feel like you’re doing good things for the planet… and who doesn’t want that?
