I always thought the police academy was an institution of smiles – where funny voices and practical jokes ruled and cadets like Carey Mahoney and Moses Hightower were head of the class. My how the times have changed.
New York Police Department officer Patrick Pogan, 23, was a budding new cadet (just three weeks out of the police academy), when he used linebacker-force to tackle a man off his bike during a Critical Mass rally in Times Square. The officer, who appears to have picked his victim out of the crowd of cyclists at random, then wrote a bogus police report accusing the cyclist of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstructing government administration.
Unfortunately for the officer, the entire incident was videotaped and posted on YouTube. He now faces up to four years in prison for assault, harrassment and for filing a misleading police report.
Watch the video above.

I never was the ‘anti-cop’ type – until I moved to NYC. I now assume the worst and am sometimes suprised. What would make someone 3 weeks on the job think that this is acceptable police behavior? Nuts.
What a jerkoff.
Indeed, what a jerkoff. Actually, sort of creepy the way it came out of nowhere… the random selection and carefully timed footsteps.
I do have to say, this is one of the first Critical Ass videos I have seen where it was not a person on a bike being the jerkoff. Not condoning the assault, just an observation.
I hope the guy gets some jail time – he’s obviously a few bricks short of a load. Or… just inherently evil and completely lacking in judgement.
