If your job prospects for 2009 is looking meek, or if you’re just bored and need to spice up your life, you’ll probably want to apply to what tourism officials in Australia are calling the “best job in the world.” Tourism Queensland is on the search for someone to become the caretaker of a tropical island off the Queensland coast. The six-month contract in the Great Barrier Reef includes $103,000, a three-bedroom villa complete with pool, and the chance to snorkel, swim, dive and sail on a daily basis. In return the caretaker will commit to working 12 hours a month, which will be taken up by feeding some fish and picking up the daily mail (no, I’m not making this up). But the most important duty will be to report back to Tourism Queensland on what’s happening on the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, via blog, videos and photos. Think of it as an extremely cushy reporting job.
It almost sounds too good to be true, but according to tourism officials, there’s no catch. That’s because they’re expecting “this smart marketing investment to generate more than $70 million worth of publicity for Queensland.” What do you have to do to apply? Just submit a video application by February 22nd and you’re good to go. But don’t think it will be easy; the tourism board is expecting thousands of applicants.
Are you up for it? Check out www.islandreefjob.com for more information on the job and how to apply.
I think I better take the rest of the day off and start working on my application… Wend HQ in Australia, not a bad thought!
