During World War II the Nazis did not invade Switzerland. But recently residents of the Swiss alpine region of Appenzell Innerhoden have found themselves threatened by German invaders cut from an entirely different mold: nudists. And the assault was deemed so serious that officials have passed a law making it clear that the community doesn’t want to see any more nackt wanderfeunds in their Schweizer Alpen.
Nudists began appearing in the area in droves after a German naturist organization announced that the region’s lax rules made it an ideal destination for those who like to, ahem, expose themselves to nature. Worried that the activity would spread by word of mouth and that even more naked Germans would be wandering the hillsides during the spring tourist season, the Appenzell authorities passed a law that allow fines of 200 francs (£122) to be given to tourists who get caught naked in the Alps.
You’ve been warned.
