Here’s a travel tip: if you want a taste of the local cuisine of the place you’re visiting, try a hole in the wall restaurant. It’s a much smarter option than hunting down local wildlife and grilling it yourself, because if you do, you could find yourself arrested by the local police.

A pair of Americans learned that the hard way when they were arrested last week in the Bahamas for allegedly catching and eating an endangered species of iguana. The couple probably thought they were being sneaky, but wanted to share the iguana grilling adventure with their friends, so they did what every 20-something traveler would do: put photos of their feast on Facebook.

Photos of “parts of an iguana on a grill, two men eating the iguana pieces, and a man and a woman cleaning what appears to be undersized conch,” were found by Bahamanian authorities, proof that no photo posted on the popular social networking site is ever secret.

The iguanas are protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). A thought for the two travelers: that’s a list of endangered species… not a local menu.
