Un-Road Trip: The Trailer (with Matt Lauer) from Boaz Frankel on Vimeo.

High gas prices and a guilty conscience about contributing to the rising rate of carbon emissions don’t really make a road trip sound like the best of times. But nothing beats a classic road trip to cross the country, stopping at dive bars, hole in the wall restaurants and offbeat tourist attractions along the way, which is why Boaz Frankel is going to do an “Un-Road Trip.”

Confused about the definition of an Un-Road Trip? Boaz will be “criss-crossing the United States using every mode of transportation except for car. He’ll be traversing dozens of states by kayak, bicycle, dog sled, scooter, hot air balloon, horseback, segway, hang glider, fishing boat, crop duster, and whatever else he can find.” That means absolutely no car needed; the ultimate in alternative transportation.

Boaz leaves in April, and we’ll be keeping track of his adventures, but to stay up to date, you can also check out his blog. And if you want to help out his journey — especially if you have a horse or camel he can ride on — shoot him an email.
