logo-a3_fond-blogMost people trek to Everest Base Camp with the regular list of goods: warm clothes, freeze dried food, a compass, etc. But then there’s Chocolate Sherpa, a group of adventurers, who between April 10 and May 10 will be making their way to Everest Base Camp with the standard assortment of gear, as well as 100kg of chocolate. If your euro conversion is a little rusty, that’s about 220 pounds!

The group’s plan is to distribute the chocolate as they make their way from Kathmandu to Everest Base Camp, which will make for the highest chocolate tasting in the world. Why chocolate? According to the team:

Because we think chocolate is sweet, full of energy, and that it is one of the ways we can think of to say a big “thank you” to all the Sherpas who faithfully assisted adventurers around the world in their ascensions…for over 50 years!

But that’s not all; they’re also using the media attention from the trip to collect funds to support the Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital in Kathmandu. A noble cause, and there are sweets involved… we love it!

If you’re intrigued by the project and want to take part get in touch with the Chocolate Sherpa Guys on their Facebook page. No word on whether or not you’ll be hooked up with Belgian chocolate bars.
