Hopefully you’ve been busy celebrating National Park Week during the last few days. Now here’s another reason to celebrate: on Wednesday it was announced that national parks will be receiving $750 million of federal stimulus money which will go to repairing historic buildings, constructing trails and increasing renewable energy use.

Putting money into the national parks makes economic sense too. More than 750 projects in 48 states are expected to create 30,000 to 40,000 jobs starting this summer. The money will also help national parks on the path to sustainability, with $14 million going to installing solar panels at 26 different parks.

So when you’re out traveling this summer, be sure to stop by a national park and check out all the good work being done.

  1. Super fantastic news! (as long as they don’t use the money to build new roads and parking lots!)
