volcano-boarding

There are some crazy, on the verge of insane sports out there. Just take base jumping for example. But here’s a new one that might take the prize for most off-the-wall sport: volcano boarding. Take an active volcano, add a makeshift board and a protective suit and you’re good to go, ready to ride the slopes of a geographical formation that just might erupt while you’re on it.

Showcased in today’s Telegraph, volcano boarding is the thrill-seeker’s latest and greatest sport. The article features Phillip Southan, owner of Bigfoot Hostel and Green Pathway Tours in Nicaragua, who developed the sport. “The volcano is very active,” he said. “But the biggest risk is the risk is getting some scratches if you fall off,” says Southan. By active he means very active; the volcano of choice is Nicaragua’s Cerro Negro, Central America’s youngest volcano that last erupted in 1999.

Who ever said you needed snow to enjoy the slopes?
