Captain Charles Moore discovered the eco-horror that is The North Pacific Gyre, and founded an NGO, to combat the problem, Alagalita. One of his operatives, Anna Cummins, who wrote the piece for us, kept up the outreache through Junkride. It looks like I’m going to sail with Anna to The Atlantic Gyre on a research trip next year, sampling the ocean for plastic debris just south of Bermuda in the Sargasso Sea. As a surfer myself, and general lover of the ocean in general, it’s quite an honor. Here’s a cool video that will get you up to speed if you don’t know what I’m talking about:
