Sublimity Sunday: Stand By Me

Happy Sunday my fellow sublimity junkies. I hope you made it outside to enjoy the great outdoors this weekend. But if not, don’t feel bad. Today your virtual face-slapping of the sublime is guaranteed to make you feel good and momentarily forget about all the woulda-coulda-shouldas of the previous week. Sound cheesey? Maybe. But the sun is out in Portland and I am feeling good. So table your worries and just sit back for a moment and enjoy. Feeling good is underrated anyway, dammit.

This week’s feel-good dose of the sublime features a video cut from “Playing For Change: Peace Through Music,” an award-winning documentary that mixes tracks of street performers from around the world playing the same song. This video features over 40 musicians playing the song Stand By Me.

In total, producer Mark Johnson’s team recorded over 100 musicians from Tibet to Zimbabwe for the project, often using just battery-powered equipment. Even though all the performers are literally worlds apart, the mixes actually make it sound like they are playing as one. Very cool, and oh-so-sublime.

Enjoy!
