Welcome back, my fellow sublimity junkies. Chances are you bombed your angst away with some sublime explosives last night. But if not, then you’ve come to the right place. This week’s footage of the sublime is guaranteed to blow you away.

In honor of the national holiday and subsequent rampant patriotism this weekend, Sublimity Sunday has decided to give you a little dose of politics: U.S.A. style. In the following clip, North Carolina Representative Patrick McHenry condemns bicycling as an alternative to driving as “naive” and “ridiculous.”

Occasionally something can be so outrageous — so absolutely ridiculous – that it ceases to exist in the realm of normal. This is when it can, through the right eyes, elevate to the level of sublime. McHenry’s is an example of this phenomenon.

I’m sure a lot of people out there agree with McHenry, but for those who don’t, this speech is sure to ignite some fireworks.
