nasa-mapYou know that world map you have hanging on your wall? It might just be time to throw it out. NASA and the Japanese trade ministry have just published the most complete terrain map of Earth’s surface, making whatever you have hanging on your wall look pretty meek in comparison.

The Global Digital Elevation Map comprises 1.3 million images and covers 99% of the Earth’s surface (the old one only covered 80%). You’d think such a complex production would come at a high price, but the map will actually be free and available for download. That means you’ll be able to pretty confidently map out your next trek in foreign and obscure terrain… that or just spend hours staring at some of the earth’s most amazing places while you should be diligently working, which we support 100%.
