Although nobody actually died in Vermont’s annual “death race” this year, the event is every bit as grueling as the name implies. For a portion of the race competitors have to run through a knee-deep mud sink hole before crawling 200 yards under barbed wire and then chopping out a stump before crawling back.
Our friends over at Gadling sum the three-year-old race up well:
Dubbed “survivor meets jackass,” competitors are pitched against each other in a 24 hour race carrying rocks up hills, chopping out stumps, crawling under barbed wire and even assembling legos.
For an example of how physically demanding the “death race” is, check out the video, which was put together for the New York Times by Gadling contributor Erik Olsen.
