With Southeast Asia as a backpacking hotspot, it’s no surprise to see a Beer Lao t-shirt roaming the streets. If you’ve never been to Southeast Asia, those “I went somewhere exotic and drank even more exotic beer” t-shirts are a nice slap in the face. Well no longer my friends.
Beer Lao, the staple of any backpacker who has roamed their way through Laos and other surrounding countries that carry the classic brew, might soon be making its way to the US. The New York Times recently wrote a feature article about Lao Brewery’s big push to increase the amount of Beer Lao sold abroad to 10% of total production.
That means you could soon be sipping on Beer Lao from Boston to Bend. But just because people can drink an exotic cult beer, it’s no supplement for being well traveled and educated. “When I travel internationally, people say, ‘I like your beer, but what is Laos?’ ” Sivilay Lasachack told the NYT. “I tell them it’s the country next to Vietnam, come visit.”

Hmmm…..this is exciting for lots of reasons. Maybe a new job! I’ll be in Laos for a couple months this fall.
Yes a new beer, maybe it will find itself in that little international sampler pack in our local Whole Foods??? my fingers will be crossed. I can imagine how good this must taste, as my Asian food experience has always been pleasurable I can’t imagine beer being its downfall!
Beer Lao…Yes it can be the next international beverage of choice, but how will everyone know about it. It seems like the only people who knows about Beer Lao are the people the have been to Laos and know how great Beer Lao really are.
because the people that love Beer Lao never stop talking about it and do a good job of spreading the word once they arrive home!
