Welcome back, my fellow sons and daughters of sublimity. I trust you’ve been out enjoying the summer weather this week. But as long as you’re taking a break from the sun to troll the internet for a bit now, why not jump on board for a relaxingly sublime trip across the world to the capital of one of the oldest countries in Europe?

Self-described alternatively as the “Little Paris of Middle Europe,” and the “Paris of the Danube,” Budapest is one of those cities a trip to Europe seems not quite complete without. After a long day of drinking cheap wine, exploring the 1,000-year-old culture, and racing around the public baths you just might get lucky enough to catch one of the city’s sublime street performers in action.

This week why don’t you skip the headaches of airport security and train delays and instead just sit back at your computer and watch as the guy in this video unleashes some sublime music onto the streets of Budapest. You can almost imagine, as he hammers away at his crystal glasses, how nice it would be to be there sipping on wine with a few new Hungarian friends.

When traveling, I often find that a single moment can come to define entire experiences. The chaos, frustration, and joy of traveling through Uzbekistan is diminished in my mind to the moment a group of burka-clad women burst out in song on a dusty bus; the pleasures of Turkey to the flashing knives at my favorite doner kebab stand; a weeklong hike through the Chong-Suu valley bordering Kyrgyzstan and Kazhakstan remains only as the sound of farting and laughing of the armed rangers who camped nearby.

Enjoy this moment, though it isn’t your own, for it is the essence of travel and the essence of the sublime.
