Outdoor Retailer is one huge outdoors specialty trade show, where the whole industry gets together to show off new gear. Think of every single outdoor brand you can come up with and imagine all of them shoved together in a convention center… you get the idea. We like to take the time to meet with a bunch of our friends that otherwise we’d only have email contact with, and also, check out what’s new on the green gear scene.
So here’s a recap from yesterday, day 1 of the show.
For Spring 2010 The North Face is coming out with a line of glueless shoes — held together by a system of snap-and-lock TPU connectors. The shoes also employ recycled EVA in the footbed.
TNF will also be coming out with a new backpack — rightly named the “Treehugger” — made with a blend of merino wool, and outfitted with recycled PET webbing and reground buckles. Even cooler is the fact that because the pack is made from merino wool, there is a bit of lanolin left in the fabric, giving it natural water resistant properties.
With the company motto “do the right thing,” Horny Toad is always striving to better its product line when it comes to sustainability and the Spring 2010 line incorporates an eco element in 99% of the products. We dig that!
Teko Socks is a shining example of what an environmentally conscious company can be, and we just thought that this photo of Owen Hammond and the Teko Sock Monkey was too adorable to pass up. If you’re at OR you can buy one yourself, with proceeds going to Leave No Trace.
And the first day of OR wouldn’t have been complete without some Wend/salmon love, this time thanks to iWend Ambassador Daniel Fox.
You can keep up with what we’re doing at OR over on Twitter: @wendmagazine.
