We couldn’t have picked a better theme for the August Friday Photo contest, because looking at pictures of bikes never gets old! This picture, shot by Ryan Whisner in Namibia, captures the essence of traveling with your bike: it’s never easy. It’s clear from this photo that when it comes to cycling, as Ryan puts it, “sand = bad.”
For his great shot, Ryan scores a pair of Keen cycling shoes. Want your own chance to get hooked up with some Keen gear? Submit your best cycling related shots to our Flickr pool and send an email with a description of your submission(s) to fphoto@wendmag.com. Each weekly winner will get a pair of Keen cycling shoes, and a grand prize winner at the end of the month will score a Keen commuter bag.

Heh, so far I’ve only used my mountain bike as a commuter…a short stretch of dirt road through the lemon groves and then suburbs the rest of the way.
So when I tried riding a stretch of road along the Santa Clara river bottom last week it was a total fail. It was OK until I’d get bogged down in the soft stuff and then I’d panic…and then I couldn’t unclip my damn shoes! I’d just keel over like a rotten tree.
