copenhagen bikes

Copenhagen is already known for its commitment to cycling — and its citizens are popular symbols of cycle chic –but city officials are now trying to make the Danish capital the world capital of life on two wheels, with a lofty goal of getting half of commuters on bikes by 2015.

Andreas Rohl, who is in charge of the city’s cycling program says that the goal is demanding, yet realistic. That might be because Copenhagen has a deep rooted bike culture. “For people here, going on a bicycle is a bit like brushing your teeth, you don’t think much about it!”says Rohl.

One Response to “Copenhagen Aims to Be World’s Best Cycling City”

Already known for a high standard of living for its residents, Copenhagen seems like they are on the right track! I hope we can increase the focus on building bike paths and rail trails here in the US. I know there is a growing interest in bicycling between bed & breakfast inns here as a vacation alternative, but making it easier and safer for people to bicycle to work or for basic transportation in urban areas would really help.

Thanks for this tidbit of info.
