This video has been going around the bike messenger blogs for the past 48 hours and a messenger friend of mine in Minneapolis sent it along to me. Apparently, a bike messenger was chillin’ in between calls and watched a guy try to go to work on his lock with a drill. And well, it pissed him off. I want to rewrite Dante’s Inferno and classify each circle of hell by what the thief stole. Bikes or Musical Instruments gets number one.

You must not have read Dante’s Inferno then. The 1st circle of hell is the outermost layer, and is essentially the most mild circle. The 9th circle is the most severe.
Ah, Gordon, thanks for bring a little pedantry to the Wend Blog! I must admit, it’s been 15 years since I’ve read The Inferno. Ah well.
You know what else bike messengers do? They don’t obey traffic laws, they go through red lights, they ride against traffic, they hit and run other cyclists who ARE obeying the laws, they hit and run pedestrians (here in NYC) ALL THE TIME, and they, generally speaking, have pretty rank b.o. Don’t make heroes out of them. For the most part they are thugs.

okey, we get it, he tried to steal your bike. bad thing to do. (im not a messenger, but ive had mine stolen like 3x already. stupid city i live in, but cmon!)

Did you know that cops also hurt people and break laws? Even some firemen too? Bankers, baristas, church clergy…all sorts of people break laws and do shitty things. Just because some bike messengers are dicks doesn’t mean they all are. I’d say this guy is a hero, a hero for everyone out there who has had their bike stolen.
what a bunch of dicks…three on one? if he is trying to steal your bike call the police, film him trying to steal it…don’t jump him 3 on 1…
Regardless the place where either party belongs, the actions of the three involved seem more of a mild lynching than that of a session of imparted knowldge. A little farther even than an eye for an eye.
If you can stand up and walk away from 3 dudes beating on you… those 3 dudes are pussies.

I agree with the comments about the guys being a bunch of dicks. I have no goodwill for thieves, but this was just stupid.

To everyone else – stfu. All they did was push him around and try to intimidate him. They didn’t bash the stupid *$&#^# teeth in, did they? They didn’t push him to the ground and kick his head in. Do you guys even know what real “thugs” do?
How about you rely on you bike for your livelihood. I want to see how you would react when it’s stolen. These guys have tough jobs. I don’t blame them for being on edge.
