A classic view of the city
Old architecture, colorful buildings, cobblestone streets… Stockholm has an authentic Swedish feel that attracts tourists from around the world. After spending the last week in Sweden, I finally got a day to myself in the capital, and as always, it was a reminder of just how amazing this city is. Why? Here are five reasons that I love Stockholm and why it’s worth a visit.

1. Stockholm is a big city with a natural feel. Because of the surrounding waterways, old architecture and commitment to green space, Stockholm doesn’t have the cramped, stressful feel that many other big cities are known for. Instead of smog and pollution there’s always a sea breeze wafting its way in from the archipelago, and there are plenty of outdoor related trips to be taken in and around town.

2. You can spend all day on the water. Even urban lovers need nature time, and Stockholm is the idyllic spot for enjoying the outdoors. A day trip around Stockholm’s Archipelago — known for its beautiful islands which are popular places for Stockholmites’ summer homes — makes it feel like the big city doesn’t even exist.

3. Stockholm loves bikes. There are bike paths and cyclists everywhere, and the city has even invested in a bike rental program making it easy for tourists to explore by the way of two wheels.

4.You can explore most of the city on foot. If you don’t feel like jumping on the subway, you don’t have to. Stockholm is big enough that there’s always something new going on, and the city certainly has a metropolitan vibe, but its also small enough that you can enjoy a lot of the city highlights by foot. Granted you’ll clock a lot of miles, but walking is sometimes the best way to get to know a city when traveling.
5. It’s Sweden! Come on, we all know that one of the main reasons to visit Stockholm is that it’s the capital of a popular Scandinavian country. There’s plenty of “Swedish” to enjoy: design, food, people, etc. So much that you might never want to leave…
