What do Portlanders love more than bicycling? Bicycling naked. That’s why the Flaming Lips came to Portland to shoot their new music video for “Watching the Planets.” So where do naked bikers come in? Lead singer Wayne Coyne said the inspiration stems from a musical called Hair.
“You know how it’s a bunch of freaked out naked people climbing some mountain with blood and fire and finding some new civilization there —so I thought of Portland, right?”
Right. He also had read about the naked bike rides in Portland and decided it would be a perfect fit. Thus, a few weeks ago, dozens of nude enthusiasts showed up at Mt. Tabor for the video shoot. Keeps your eyes peeled for the upcoming video, which Coyne says should be released soon.
