A Conversation with Karina Hollekim
posted November 10th, 2009 by Peter Frick-Wright
Before Karina Hollekim shattered her legs from the hips down (21 fractures in one femur) while flying her wingsuit in August 2006, she had it pretty good. She sought out adrenaline for her livelihood, and is still known as the only woman to ever combine skiing and B.A.S.E. jumping.
She traveled the world leaping off tall buildings in a single bound and seeking out new lines on big mountains while sponsorships and film crews paid the bills.
After the accident Hollekim was told she’d never walk again. Now she spends her time flying between rehab facilities and seeking out doctors who will perform the surgeries she wants so that she might make a more complete recovery.
