Sometimes the first snow of the year begins to drop when you’re least expecting it. This week’s winner, Jennifer Levo, found this out the hard way during a mountain biking trip outside of Bend last month.
Here’s what she had to say about the event:
During the first weekend of October my friends and I drove down to Bend for a little mountain biking camping weekend. The weather called for upper 50′s. “Great,” we thought. “That will be perfect.” But Saturday of that weekend we woke to a bitter chill and grey skies. Figuring it’d warm up, we went to the trails in our shorts and normal MTB attire hoping we’d warm up. However it didn’t take too long for the chill to turn to flakes of snow falling from the sky. WTF is this? It’s the first weekend in October?
We stayed out there for a few more hours trying to get our money’s worth out of the “woops”, but we just ended up freezing in the chilly snowy mess. We went to bed expecting the next morning to be better. However, we woke up to the light sound of snow falling on cedars and pines and looked outside to find 4 inches of snow on the ground and dumping more by the minute. That is the quickest we’ve ever packed up camp.
Congratulations Jennifer, you win a Synchronicity Jacket and a pair of Echidna gloves from Mountain Hardwear.
