In the course of researching this post to find out who the little girl is I happened upon a strange conversation thread discussing whether or not this video is the result of irresponsible parenting. Interestingly, the thread, which came up in a Google search, is not on a parenting website at all, but rather it appears on a discussion board for Asheron’s Call, a fantasy MMORPG game set on the fictional planet of Auberean. The video is great, but the online discussion about it (below) is sublime.

It turns out that besides being a climber himself, the father of the climbing child is also a threatening Asheron’s Call player known by the monikers Kelvartis, N_Oo_B, and mushy. His gaming prowess has obviously generated some jealousy among the other players, so much so that one claims to have turned him in to YouTube authorities on the grounds of child abuse for posting this video.

Instead of trying to sum up how the discussion went I just cut and pasted some of my favorite threads below. The people involved in this conversation have several nicknames for one another so I will provide a key so that you can follow the main player. All of the grammatical mistakes, etc. are their own.

The conversation is not difficult to follow, and trust me – it’s worth it.

Kelvartis = father of the climbing child. He posts in this thread under the name N_Oo_B. Others in thread sometimes refer to him as mushy

Kelvartis has a daughter

N_Oo_B: [Posts video]…she’s 22mo…yes that’s my home wall…She’s fallen off twice so far, no harm with the pads. Typically she only goes a few feet up on her own and then down climbs. She’ll go higher but most the time only when somebody’s spotting her.

Robthehand: anyone who is as smart as me will tell you that brain injuries to infants can be dehilbilitating for the rest of the formentioned infants life. It is to bad mushy choose to exploit his daughter for a few cheers from the stupid crowd on vn rather then protect his child and be a real human. wow all i can say is wow just wow.

IconofMadness: Man that was irresponsible to say the least……… I fell real bad for ur daughter because its gonna take a nasty fall for u to learn to gear her up, especially at that age…

Robthehand: if mushy’s hobby was swimming and he posted a thread of him tossing a 22 month old baby in the deep end of the pool with no floatation device everyone would be up in arms. The kids head is at least 6 to 7 feet off the ground in that video with no helmet and no spotter. Its at its be a stupid idea by father of the year and at is worst recipe for disater. Mushy should be ashamed of himself plain and simple.

Unarmed-Killer: …Just because kelvartis has dominated you in a game doesn’t make it right to call him a bad father, you are taking this way to seriously. So he killed you several times, big deal… its a game and you play it for fun, right? If you’re not playing AC for fun then you should quite. I really recommend you take a deep breath and relax. Maybe once you relax a bit you wont try to get involved with peoples real lives because of built up aggression and rage from a game. Oh and btw Robert, a good father is a father that cares, and his daughter is sharing a hobby with her dad (its kind of a no brainer you fkin tard).

Faith_in_Heaven: baby’s bones can endure alot more then a grown adults can. I ran my sister over with a car when she was about that age and I was just over 2. A stationwagon rolled over her leg and she was up and running around the emergency room by the time we got there. Cool vid Mush. Grats on the lil climber!

RobtheHand: it is funny how all the other ogs are jumping to defend someone who is enagaging then bragging about possible child abuse. I have reported this link to the youtube authorities and I hope you get a visit from child welfare mushy. you are a terrible father and human being.

N_Oo_B: Maybe you should have been dropped on your head one or two times MORE Rob. gf cool to all the non-h8rz =]   and fyi I’ve already got her a new CS acid bow for her charicter.

Unarmed Killer: omg omg, I seen a video on youtube of robthehand’s dad taking rob OUTSIDE WITHOUT SUNSCREEN. Those UV rays are dangerous, im going to give child services a call…

Chino_Vanilla: She’s also undoubtedly a better climber already than 99% of these boards, so you guys getting up there on one of those things would probably be more dangerous than her climbing it.
