Off the Beaten Track: 4 Countries Newly Opened to Tourists
These days, it’s hard to get a genuine traveling experience without hordes of tourist ruining the moment. Places that used to be hard to reach are slowly getting invaded by tourism.
To get off the beaten track, we’ll have to look deeper. These 4 countries newly opened to tourists thanks to the lifting of FCO (Foreign Office)’s travel warnings, offer a refreshing traveling experience and the appeal of being one of the first visitors.
1. Republic of Congo, Central Africa

One of the best places to see gorillas in the wild, the tropical forests in Congo are home to indigenous tribes and wildlife. Come here for the wild Africa experience. Visitors are advised to avoid the Pool region and traveling at night.
2. East Timor, South-East Asia

Although FCO still advises against travel to the country, the area is presently patrolled by UN peacekeeping forces. With raw landscapes and excellent trekking opportunities, there is nowhere else that offers such challenging and unique travels.
3. Haiti, Caribbean

People come here for the alternative Caribbean – slavery history, voodoo antics and wild rainforest waterfalls. FCO advises visitors to exercise a high degree of caution.
4. Lebanon, Middle East

The country’s extremely diverse setting – from snow capped mountains to dry deserts – has managed to be kept a secret. Having been out of reach for so long, it’s maintained a sense of mystique. When visiting, monitor political movements closely.
