Friday Photo: Snow Farming in the Cascades

Winter Turns in the Cascades

Winter Turns in the Cascades

It’s December, which means there’s snowy fun to be had in the mountains. It seemed only natural to dub this month’s Friday Photo theme ‘Winter Turns‘.

This week’s winner, Michael Ahlman, snapped this photo while doing some ski touring in the Cascades west of Bend, Oregon. Here’s what he had to say about the trip:

I recently did some ski touring in the Cascades west of Bend, OR, where I was pleasantly surprised with the early season conditions. After very high winds (60-80 mph) came with the 20″ of snow that fell in 72 hours, I was expecting some wind slab in the bowl that I toured. As you will notice in these photos, all skiers and boarders on this particular post-storm day were treated to some pleasantly fluffy, light powder. Winter is definitely off to a good start! Now we just need the temps to stay below freezing and more white stuff to grace the high country.

Congratulations Michael, you win a Camelbak hydration pack stuffed with: two boxes of Clif Bars, a Katadyn Hiker PRO Water Microfilter, a ChicoBag and a package of Grabber hand warmers.
