Inclement weather and snow conditions has led search and rescue crews to call off rescue efforts for the two climbers still missing on Mt. Hood.

The transition from rescue to recovery of the climbers bodies was announced on Wednesday, and it’s another heartbreaking end for family, friends and the tight-knit community of climbers. The two climbers still missing are Anthony Vietti, 24, of Longview, Wash., and Katie Nolan, 29, of Portland, Ore. The body of Luke Gullberg, 26, was recovered from the Reid glacier on Saturday.

The cause of the incident is still undetermined, but it has been hypothesized that Nolan was injured during the ascent and Gullberg set off for help and suffered a non-lethal fall, but later died from exposure. Meanwhile, Vietti remained with Nolan and it is assumed the two also suffered from exposure and died of hypothermia.

Our thoughts are with the families of the three climbers whom are dealing with tragedy this holiday season.
