The turtles at the Great Yarmouth Sea Life Center in the U.K. are given a special treat each year during the holiday season. The treat comes in the form of brussels sprouts, which the turtles enjoy, and which also provide them with healthy vitamins, minerals and fiber. However, the once-a-year indulgence also happens to cause a biological reaction – in the form of flatulence. Last year, one turtle’s “gassy bubbles” triggered the aquarium’s overflow sensors, setting off the overflow alarm. But this year, the staff is thinking ahead. To prevent the alarms from going off, the tank itself has been emptied of thousands of liters of water, making it six inches lower than usual. Surely no extra bubbles will set the alarms off now.
