Sarah Outen, 24, holds three world records after her incredible 124 day, 4000 mile 2009 journey from Australia to Mauritius. Outen is not only the first woman and youngest person to solo the Indian Ocean, she is also the youngest woman to row across an ocean altogether. Because of her awesome feat, Outen has been named Best of ExplorersWeb 2009.
Commenting on her love of the ocean, Outen told ExplorersWeb:
“‘There is an energy out there on the oceans that I have found nowhere else – it is addictive, refreshing, testing…I love the different moods and the way it can go from still calm to raging beast in an instant. It is fickle and beautiful.’”
