Last spring, the climbing community lost two prolific alpinists, Micah Dash and Jonny Copp, along with filmmaker Wade Johnson to an avalanche in China. Copp and Dash were well-respected for their light and fast alpine style and more so for their innate ability to bring back captivating (and often humorous) stories of groundbreaking ascents. Their narratives often graced the pages of climbing magazines and the two were frequent stars at film festivals.
Leaving such an impact on the climbing world, it was inevitable a grant would be established in honor of Copp and Dash. Like most grants, the Copp-Dash Inspire Award will fund bold alpine ascents in remote regions. But to truly capture the essence the the duo, the grant aims to inspire strong story telling in a variety of visual and verbal mediums. To help achieve that goal, grant recipients will be mentored before and after their expedition by the Adventure Film Festival, Alpinist, Sender Films and photographers John Dickey and Mikey Schaefer.
Applications for the Copp-Dash Inspire Award will be accepted until March 31, 2010 and information can be found here.
