Danny Davis has a lot in common with his friend, and fellow snowboarder, Kevin Pearce. After Pearce–who was set to take on icon Shaun White–sustained a head injury while training on a half-pipe last month, Davis was to replace him in his assignment. But now, like Pearce, Davis is also in a hospital in Utah after he broke his back on Sunday in a non-snowboarding related incident. The LA Times reports:

“The 21-year-old who grew up in Michigan was involved in an ATV accident, according to the Park Record (Utah), which said he and a friend were going down a driveway when they hit a closed gate. News reports indicated he was found unconscious.”

A message on Davis’ Facebook page said that he will not be competing in any events for the rest of the year.
