Whistler Ski Resort, the home of the 2010 Winter Olympic downhill races, has been seized by lenders. While the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) has said that the events will go as planned, the resort is to be auctioned off on February 19 — one week after the opening ceremony.
Meanwhile, Cypress Mountain is having problems as well. With warmer temperatures and no new snow predicted in the forecast, Olympic organizers have begun to truck snow in from higher elevations.
VANOC does not foresee these issues causing a disturbance in the Games, but has acknowledged that having them surface only three weeks before go-time has potential to tarnish its image.
