If you didn’t huff it out to the craggy peaks of Telluride, Colorado to catch this year’s Mountainfilm festival don’t worry – organizers are once again taking the show on a world tour that may be coming to a town near you soon. If you happen to be one of the many Wend fans living in the Portland area then you can catch the show at Portland State University tonight (Thursday, January 28th).
The mission behind the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival is to educate and inspire audiences about issues that matter, cultures worth exploring, and environments worth preserving. How that all plays out at the Telluride festival is through a series of full-day symposiums, films, speakers, art exhibits, workshops, and forums for nonprofits.
While the traveling version of the festival is only a small taste of the original, it is still a bite worth taking. According to Mountainfilm’s website, each of its traveling shows, which showcase a selection of films from the actual festival, is “custom-tailored to the venue, event and community in question, and is often used as a fund-raiser for other non-profit organizations.”
For example, all proceeds from tonight’s show in Portland will benefit Portland Mountain Rescue, a local a local non-profit organization that runs mountain search-and-rescue and education programs.
If you want to catch the festival in Portland it’s playing at the Smith Memorial Student Union Ballroom at Portland State University from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. tonight. Tickets are $12 at the door.
Check out Mountainfilm’s website to find out if the festival will be coming to your town.
