Although the 2010 Olympic Cauldron won’t officially be lit until tomorrow, restrictions on the slopes began as early as January 31st, when two backcountry skiers were detained for skiing too close to the Olympic venue. The pair of skiers traversed down a run called Cake Hole, and upon reaching the bottom, slightly outside of the designated resort area, waved down a nearby snow mobile in the hopes of getting a ride. The sled stopped indeed, but only to bring the pair to an actively patrolling military camp, set up to monitor the outlying areas near Olympic Village. The duo was eventually released for further questioning by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and after nearly five hours, the skiers were taken back to their vehicle and allowed to leave.
