Glasses ‘Round the World

Glasses have the transformative power to make the wearer look smart, dorky, or downright awesome. All superman–that rippling muscle-bound meathead from Krypton–needs to do in order to become the cowardly Clark Kent, is to don a pair of glasses. All comedian Tina Fey needs to do to complete her sexy librarian look is to slide into a pair of glasses.

When traveling through foreign lands, the variety of glasses you see are often as curious and intriguing as the faces that support them. From homemade frames to coke-bottle-thick lenses, the fit and style of these strange accessories can provide an insight into economic conditions as well as a glimpse into the characters and personalities of those who wear them.

So unfold your massive frames and polish off your poindexter lenses, because this week we are taking you on a visual journey of Glasses, ‘Round the World.

If you like our ‘Round the World series, you might enjoy some of the previous themes: mowhaks, beer, authorities, fanny packs, dogs, Jesus, swimming, sweaters, mustaches, stairs, chess, foods, silhouettes, outhouses, cemeteries and donkeys.
