Forget Cats and Dogs, It’s Raining Fish

Residents of Lajamanu of the Northern Territory in Australia have been worrying about more than a light drizzle when they’ve stepped outside in the last couple of days. An ordinary umbrella would do nothing to protect an individual from the massive downpour they are dealing with — because it’s raining fish.

It’s the third time in less than 30 years that Lajamanu has seen this crazy weather phenomenon. Experts have suggested that it is caused by the pressure of thunderstorms sucking the fish from the river (which is 326 miles away) into the sky, then dropping them back down again with the rain.

If you think that sounds unreal — you’re not the only one. Joe Ashley, who lives in another outback town in the Northern Territory, said:

“Usually fish are in the water now they are falling out of the sky what if anything bigger falls out of the sky next? It could be crocodiles that would be real scary.”
