88 Bikes – Sending Bikes to Orphans

The 88 Bikes Foundation, along with Keen Hybrid.Care, has been hard at work on spreading two-wheeled love to children in developing countries. Project4, their latest installment, donated 300 simple, sturdy bikes to orphans in Ghana, Nepal, and Vietnam.

To facilitate the success of the program and the happiness of the children, the foundation is sending volunteers to the sites to teach children about bicycle maintenance, repair and safety. Along with the workshops, the volunteers will also be evaluating the feasibility of bike shops in the area for the continued popularity of cycling in developing areas.

So far, 88Bikes has been overwhelmed by the response to their humanitarian efforts. “A bike is that magical vessel of freedom and fun, the rare tool that’s as useful as it is enjoyable,” says founder Dan Austin.
