Tom Stienstra is an iconic outdoor writer, having written several widely recognized guidebooks about California, Washington and Oregon hiking. However, as of March 25th, Stienstra is also known as the guy who got busted for pot. Police arrested Stienstra and his wife after deputies found “a sophisticated marijuana cultivation operation in the barn” at his home in… you got it, Weed, California.

According to Siskiyou County sheriff’s spokeswoman Susan Gravenkamp, “Authorities seized 60 marijuana plants, 11.1 pounds of processed marijuana, scales, packaging materials and other paraphernalia from the barn and the home.” In addition, deputies found medical marijuana recommendation paperwork for Stienstra, his wife and his son.

Stienstra and his wife were, in fact, arrested and charged with one felony count each, for “possession of drugs for sale.” However, Stienstra quickly paid $75,000 bail, and both he and his wife were released. No charges were filed.
