17-year-old Carissa Moore isn’t just a great surfer, she’s also a pretty awesome person. After winning the TSB Bank Women’s Surf Festival this weekend, and receiving a $15 thousand dollar check in her name, she donated the entire amount to the Waitara Bar Boardriders Club of New Zealand. Moore says she made the decision to donate the money prior to winning the contest, as a means of inspiration. “I’ve placed ninth in my last two events and we thought it would be a really good motivator for me to know I was doing it all for these guys,” she told the local paper, Taranki Daily News. She added, “I’m really lucky to have the support of my family and my sponsors and to be able to contribute in this way,” she said. “And it’s a great way to give back to the community. They have been such a great motivation to me this week.”
