In what seems like an insane-but-totally-awesome competition displaying the prowess of the fearless, the Vertical Blue 2010 freediving competition is going on in the Bahamas right now. If you’re not familiar, freediving is the art of diving deep into the water, sans breathing apparatus.
Sponsored by Suunto, the competition is also featuring a special Dive-Off on the side that focuses on the three basic disciplines of freediving: constant weight, unassisted immersion, and free immersion. In the Dive-Off, each freediver can earn up to 100 points per dive. The athlete with the best score out of 300 points will be named the winner and best freediver of the year.
The contest began Saturday and continues through April 27.
