Mountainfilm 2010: Achievements of the Human Spirit

There is no question that adventure inspires. But couple this with the big screen and you’ve got one dynamic duo. That’s why we’re so excited about the release of Mountainfilm‘s 2010 list of excellent films to be hitting the big screens at this year’s festival. Mountainfilm, for those who don’t know, is one of America’s leading independent documentary film festivals–an assembly of people who come together to see what the human spirit can achieve.

This year Mountainfilm had the nearly impossible task of finding the best 75 films out of more than 600 submissions. But festival director David Holbrooke says he is especially pleased with the representation of core climbing and adventure content as the creative minds behind the event continue to push the envelope on edgier and more unexpected programming. So expect the unexpected: From features revealing one woman’s obsession with conquering Everest to a film about the first designer of the drug Ecstasy, the sources of inspiration will surprise you.

We’re especially thrilled about the film selection “180 South,” a profile on mountaineer Jeff Johnson as he retraces the famous steps of those before him to Patagonia and tries to recapture the same adventurous spirit. The film is about the true nature of adventure from the past to the present, and we can’t wait to see how the film and the festival inspire the creative, adventurous spirit in us all.
