Hans Florine and Yuji Hirayama’s current speed record for climbing El Capitan is in danger.
Swiss climber Ueli Steck, easily one of the best in the world, will attempt to tackle the 3,000 foot tall rock face in Yosemite National Park faster than ever before. Holding a number of records in the Alps, he is no stranger to speed climbing.
The current records stands at 2 hours, 37 minutes, and 5 seconds—a considerable feat as, according to the Adventure Blog, the first climb took 47 days in 1958.
Above is a clip of Steck and climbing partner Alex Honnold during a training climb of the Nose a few days ago.
